You're Invited: The Rise of Conspiratorial Environmentalism with Dr. Holly Jean Buck on April 1, 2025 - 3pm ET
In her recent article, The Rise of Green MAGA, environmental social scientist Dr. Holly Jean Buck explores how once-core environmental ideas are being reshaped by a new coalition that has both left and right influences. She writes:
“[Robert] Kennedy’s rightward trajectory and new position within the MAGA movement are the latest indication that ideas that were once a core part of environmentalism are veering in a strange direction. Call it para-environmentalism. Like other para-phenomena, such as paramilitaries or the paranormal, para-environmentalism exists outside of the realm of official institutions and structures—at least for now. It may end up eating the environmental movement.”
What does the rise of conspiracy-inflected environmentalism mean for climate politics? Where do they get it right—and wrong? And how should those outside the movement respond?
Join Holly, David and Ed as they unpack this emerging movement—its narratives, its conspiracists, and its potential influence on Canada and beyond.
