For EvC's Season 5 finale join David, Sara, and Ed as they talk to Canada's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources.

They will cover a broad range of energy and climate policy topics, revisiting many of the themes from the past season to examine what Canada is doing on areas like electrification, batteries, oil and gas, critical minerals, carbon pricing and sustainable jobs.

Where is Canada making progress, and where is it struggling? They will also discuss Canada’s positioning in the geopolitics of the energy transition and the map of climate action both in the US and Europe.

About Our Guest:

The Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson has served as the Member of Parliament for North Vancouver since 2015. He has also served in the Prime Minister’s Cabinet as Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, and currently as Minister of Energy and Natural Resources.

Raised in Saskatchewan, Minister Wilkinson spent more than 20 years in the private sector, holding leadership positions with a number of companies dedicated to the development of clean technology.

About Your Co-Hosts:

David Keith is Professor and Founding Faculty Director, Climate Systems Engineering Initiative at the University of Chicago. He is the founder of Carbon Engineering and was formerly a professor at Harvard University and the University of Calgary. He splits his time between Canmore and Chicago.

Sara Hastings-Simon studies energy transitions at the intersection of policy, business, and technology. She’s a policy wonk, a physicist turned management consultant, and a professor at the University of Calgary and Director of the Master of Science in Sustainable Energy Development.

Ed Whittingham is a clean energy policy/finance professional specializing in renewable electricity generation and transmission, carbon capture, carbon removal and low carbon transportation. He is a Public Policy Forum fellow and formerly the executive director of the Pembina Institute, a national clean energy think tank.
